I replaced the tweeters of my loudspeakers. I don't have
experience in soldering and I failed doing so. I tried
many times, I followed the instructions but I couldn't
do it. What is your opinion in this matter: is soldering
a must or would it be sufficient to twist and tape the
wires tightly?
Solder is best, but wire nuts or crimp on connectors will
work fine.
Twisting the wires together and applying electrical tape
is second-rate work, but it will function. It may fall
apart after a couple of years, so it's better to use a
more permanent solution.
Agreed. If the wires are 18 guage or finer, then Scotchlok IDC crimp-on
connectors are at least as good as solder. The ones that are filled with
silicon jelly are especially good where moisture might be an issue.
