Hi. I am fixing up a Marantz PMD670 for interviewing,
using it with Audio Technica 3035 and Stagg PGT-80
mics.

SOFTWARE
I am also seeking a good mixing software package,
ideally free-ware or shareware. Any ideas on that
welcomed. Not sure if Audigy is used by anyone here.
Will be using PCM/WAV files.

Audacity can be downloaded and used for free.

Sorry, yes, I have downloaded Audacity (not Audigy, my
mistake). Has anyone used it for serious stuff, and does
it have any affordable rivals/betters.
I think Audacity is limited to R + L mic tracks, so if I
want to edit in a music/effects track too, seems I'd need
something more powerful... but what, I wonder? Excuse my
ignorance in this dept.

No, the current version of Audacity is a true multitrack app.

Ooops! my error... before this group mail arrived, I discovered
Michael Geogehan's advice on his Reel Reviews site, where he not only
shows clearly that Audacity is a fully functional multi-track package,
but details how to make a podcast from scratch with pikkies and
screenshots. I recommend this to others.

.... and thanks for taking the time yourself.
