Hi. I am fixing up a Marantz PMD670 for interviewing,
using it with Audio Technica 3035 and Stagg PGT-80 mics.
ISSUES
Are there any issues I, as a relative newbie, need to
consider to get a good result... and which pop filters
would users here recommend please? I read some cheapies
fall off the mic stands!
Foam pop filters work for mild popping. ENG folks seem to like the big fuzzy
things which also do an nice job on wind. The nylon sock around a darning
ring type pop filter is mostly for the studio.
Your Stagg PGT-80 is alleged to have pretty good intenal pop filtering.
You've heard of don't fix what's not broken, right?
I'd be a lot more worried about the 3035.
Is there going to be any concurrent video? If so inobtrusive is good.
CABLES
Also, I am not sure what level of cabling, cost wise, to
go to... or of good suppliers. Self-funded, so aware of
costs, but don't want to compromise signal.
Standard quality cables get the job done. Too-cheap cables tend to fall
apart early, but until they fall apart even they don't sound bad.
I'll be interviewing indoors initially, plus doing
linking pieces to microphone for insertion.
SOFTWARE
I am also seeking a good mixing software package, ideally
free-ware or shareware. Any ideas on that welcomed. Not
sure if Audigy is used by anyone here. Will be using
PCM/WAV files.
Audacity can be downloaded and used for free.
