This might be bigger than Reagan. RIP, Ray.

Boon

Might be????

Ray Charles, in his prime, was bigger than life. Reagan, in his prime,

was

a third-rate actor.

It was sad to see Ray Charles onstage in L.A. (where we saw Brian Setzer
together) a few years back - he didn't have his own band with him, was
attempting to do some major variations on his singing style for some old
favorite songs, which didn't work at all, and he was beginning to lose

his

golden voice. It saddens me today to know that he only had a few years

left

that evening.

I miss him - Ray Charles, that is.

True. But did Ray Charles defeat communism and bring equality, liberty and
fraternity to the teeming millions living in the totalitarian, godless,
savage societies behind the Iron Curtain?

Did he endorse the activities of Contras and Sandanistas in Nicaragua and
Guatamala in the name of democracy?

Did he arm Saddam Hussein to the teeth with weapons for the very purpose

of

plurality and promoting freedom and peace throughout the Middle East? I
think not my friend.

Therefore, it may be time to re-assess Charles's legacy. And Reagan's.

Your tongue-in-cheek check-list just shed a beacon of light on the
situation. Thank you. On re-assessment, I've decided I'd rather have a
crowd of musicians, music lovers and audiophiles at my funeral than a crowd
of politicians any day. :-)

Definitely a lot less somber and more creative too. Perhaps in the Big Easy?

What about a New Orleans' fanfare, a swinging parade ? )
