You get silicone oil on a surface and it will slowly spread out until it

C'mon Scott, one molecule thick??? Not 2 or 2 thousand? Seems kinda hard
to believe, not that I have any idea.
It takes decades, but when it gets thin the stuff adheres more strongly to
other surfaces than to itself. So it gets progressively thinner and thinner
until it can't get any thinner than that.
