Read (or watch) the chapter in "A Cook's Tour" by Anthony Bourdain.

The friend of mine who went was more interested in the pilgrimage sites
than in sight-seeing, but found the people friendly and the food and
wine wonderful.

I have been several times in Portugal for job & holidays.
People are modest, friendly and open-minded.
Porto and Lisboa are very interesting cities.
They surely have one of the nicest vineyard of the world (Douro Valley).
The food is not at the level of the wine except for fish cooking.

What's wrong with beans? :-) Vinho verde is a popular summer wine among
local pianists.

Portugal was the home of the first great piano composer, Domenico
Scarlatti.
