Not much has changed, as jj (Jim Johnston) - one who formerly posted here
regularly - recently reminded me in several e-mails this week - the only
difference this past year is that politics has been injected into the
flamewars. As he originally asked, "doesn't anyone discuss audio on RAO any
more?" The few who do post about audio are pretty much ignored, as the
flaming goes on and on, whether about politics or personalities.
I generally like what you have to say but come on man, no one has
introduced more political threads than you. RAO is a place where
people interested in audio come to exchange opinions. Often that's
about things that aren't audio-related. Because they share a similar
interest, sometimes their opinions on other things are on the same
wavelength, even if they're disagreeable. For my part, I know it's
unscientific, but I feel like I get a better understanding of what
typical Americans must be thinking from reading RAO than from reading
the New York Times's occasional stories about public opinion. As for
ABX, it is opinion.
Yes RAO has been more diffuse than usual lately, but that's because
politics has become so divisive and crisis-ridden. Usenet has always
been a source of political news, and not just in political newsgroups.
