From recent purchases:

1. Shostakovich Sym. 5 Bernstein/NY Sony

Legendary performance (though most people now think that Lenny got the
ending tempo all wrong), so very well played. The sound is stuffy,
lifeless, dull. It's such a shame that virtually all of Bernstein's
recorded legacy has such terrible recorded sound on Columbia/CBS/Sony
and DGG.

If this is the "live in Japan" recording, this may be the first
recording I ever heard on cd. Well, the first minute or two, then on to
Barbra Streisand.

2. Various works Scatterday/Eastman Wind Ensemble Summit

An EXCELLENT first recording by this ensemble/conductor combination.
The sound is alive, vibrant, and below about 1100 Hz, incredibly real
sounding. BRAVO for this recording.

As an aside, our recording studio recording booth is getting re-fitted
with updated stuff (newest ProTools, etc.) next week, and that will fun
to watch and an opportunity to learn. I also volunteered to help pull
cable one afternoon. ;-)

Fortunately, you'll only have to do it once.
