Hi all

and amp does anyone have ideas on a turntable.

Some good advice has been given to you already.
But if you're not afraid of buying used and tinker a little, you might
look at some second hand Thorens TD160 table.
The stock arm is reasonably good, for better performance you might
look at changing the arm for something like a Rega RB300 or 600.

Throw in a cartridge like the Denon DL160 or one of the Grado models
(I don't have first-hand experience with Grado, however), and you're
in business.

The advantage of old Thorenses is that you can tewak them to your
heart's content, by replacing the spring suspension with Linn cirkus
springs, adding mass and damping to the platter by using lead or
Bostik adhesive material etc. etc.

Finally, you can replace the motor with a DC servo-loop controlled
type, which is in general a cheaper and even better solution than
adding a Walhalla or Lingo- kind of motor drive.

Those Thorens tables come in various models, starting with the TD150
which has a slightly heavier platter and a better bearing than the
160.

If you're not into DIY-ing, follow Jenn's advice, or e-mail the Vinyl
Anachronist for more details (he posted in this thread as "Boon").
