Amps and speakers mate differently and certain combinations are clearly
audibly better.


So some say and in very rare cases it might actually be true, but in
general, it's not. A normal speaker with a normal load impedance, will
mate with any well designed amplffer.

So even though two different amps my be indistinguishable
in a DBT for a given set of speakers, it is certainly NOT true for all
combinations. I assume it has to due with how well the amp handles
impedance swings of a given speaker.


See above. Speakers with such problematic impedance swings are to be
generally avoided. There are plenty of truly excelent sounding
speakers with no such problems.

Modern SS amps are able to deal with most speaker loads with no effort
at all.
