I thought the most inflamatory remark in the article was,
"I'm not ready to fly coach"
Yeah, I noticed the same thing. I guess we now know where the Dixie
Chicks lie on the spectrum of artistic integrity vs. fame and fortune.
Most folks who can afford not to fly coach do not fly coach. When people
start judging "integrity" on the basis of chosen transportation options
we are definitely down the ******** with the national brain cell cache.
When people start making political alignments based on the rantings of
some female airhead pop-star.. the ******** is closer than you may think.
She's entitled to her opinion, of course, and I have no problem with her
integrity. But there's a delusion that the opinions of pop stars and other
celebrities must be important because people will listen when they run their
mouths. In general, celebrities are no more knowledgeable than you or me.
Agreed... but they at least have the exposure to world travel, which is
what caused their fiasco to begin with. They didn't want to continually
be rolled into a big group of "belligerant, aggressive, wasteful Americans".
Their interview with Larry King last week was fine, and they're going to be
on PBS "Fresh Aire" today and tonight.
Just goes to show however, where public sentiment is at the moment.
They have gone from anti-Chick rallies and record burnings, and death
threats, to a number one selling record in under a week. When the radio
stations 'teased' a track off of the new record, there were still some war-
mongering fools who called in protesting with the usual "aiding terrorists"
etcetera... but the general public, not having access to the audio via the
radio, simply turned out in droves to buy the disc. Kinda' back-fired on
the narrow minded, eh?
