Help with placement of 6.1 satellite system

Hi all,
I'm looking for some help with the placement of my satellite speaker
system it is a Denon 6.1. First off I'm wondering at what height
should the speakers be mounted in relation to the floor? Should they
be at ear level when sitting in the normal position for watching TV,
if not, above or below ear level by how much? Maybe half way between
the floor and ceiling?
Next the speakers came with a floor plan drawing that shows the
placement of the speakers in a standard square room (which is what
mine is). They show the three rear channels point directly toward the
front not angled at all, the front left channel angled toward the
right and the front right channel is angled toward the left? Does this
sound about right?
I really want to figure out the best placement for the speakers as I'm
going to mount them directly to the wall and don't want to poke extra
holes if I don't have to. Also I'm thinking of using the screw slot on
the back of the speakers for mounting, sort of like hanging a picture,
any thoughts on this. I'm trying to avoid stands because of the
possibility of our dog knocking them over.
Please let me know if I'm on the right track.
Thanks!
Denon? Try stuffing all of them in a large garbage can. And close the lid
tightly. Then go buy yourself an Avantgarde surround sound system.
Cheers,
Margaret
