If you want sound quality and ambient noise rejection, consider
in-ear-monitor type headphones. To get your feet wet, stop by the local
Circuit City and pick up a pair of Koss's "The Plug". Remarkably
good-sounding for not much money, and a good indicator of how this market
segment goes. However, this style of 'phones are not for everybody. If you
want something that sounds better down the road, there is a while range of
these going up to about $500 a pair.
