And Europeans think they're more civilized

Secondly, the point I was making was that spectators killing each other
is
not common at NBA, NFL, MLB or even NHL games. And it is not uncommon in
Europe. Yet, we get continuously chastised for being a violent,
gun-toting,
trigger-happy culture.
That is a most naive conclusion. There is a well established
association between football/teams and political or thuggish factions
in many countries where the game is played, however 99 times out of
100 it's a family day out, and violence tends to be centered on the
people who seem to want to be involved in the receiving or giving end
of violence. I would suggest the number of people killed by accident
at football games (eg overcrowding) outweighs the number of
intentional deaths by several factors. C'mon.. football teams in the
UK can attract 50,000+ visitors per week, multiply that by N teams and
Y countries, and how many murders you got? Drop in the ocean. Maybe we
should draw an analogy with the predominantly USA orientated rap
culture? How many people have been shot at rap gigs?
OTOH the per thou' statistics regarding the murder rates in the USA
speak for themselves. It's just a heck of a lot more than most other
places.

don't forget that the Roman chariot racing teams each had a colour and a
political party faction,
the Romans had real nasty violence at their games, not just the show, but
the audience,
Visting Teams and supporters caused major hassles in the Towns they visted
for the races.
At the Coliseum the crowd was allowed certain privileges such as criticising
Caesar,
but too far and they Praetorian Guard were sent or threatened to be sent in
to quell the crowd.
