I have yet to hear any of the major candidates endorse a one-payer,
universal
health insurance system, I *do* feel that Gephart has at least put forth a
plan
for universal coverage that is worth serious consideration.
Actually, several Democratic candidates have publicly endorsed a one-payer
universal health system on numerous occasions: Dick Gephardt, Howard Dean,
Dennis Kucinich, and Carol Mosley-Braun.
In addition to Gephart, I'm also considering Dean and General Wesley
Clark,
whose views on foreign policy are find more detailed and creative than
those of
most of the other candidates.
I also like Clark, will wholeheartedly support him if he wins next June. In
fact, I'll wholeheartedly support whoever wins in June. I personally think
a Dean/Clark ticket would bury Bush/Cheney deeper than the Mariana Trench.
I also think it's quite likely that whomever wins the Democratic
nomination may
select one of the other major candidates as his VP running mate, unless he
selects Bob Graham, whose distinguished Senate career and heavy popularity
in
Florida, a key state, is a matter of record.
Dean and Graham recently had a bit of a love-fest in Florida. Graham's one
of my favorites out there - I was saddened about his medical problems and
saddened about his financial problems during the campaign. When Dean wins
the White House, I'm sure Graham will be invited to a prominent cabinet
post, which will be his for the taking, if he wants it. If not, his work in
the Senate will continue to be invaluable. I wish him all the best.
