Fearing *more* punishment from John Atkinson?
Oh yeah! You can tell that Howard is really "afraid" of the limey
sleazeball.
Tweakos really take themselves WAY too seriously, and see
all of these teapot tempests as major warfare. That I, an
individual who is basically retired and writing mainly to
learn something about audio products and have a bit of fun,
is "afraid" of someone like Mr. Atkinson is preposterous.
Howard, my reply to "Maggie" was intended as sarcasm. I did not mean to
imply that you actually were "afraid" of the limey blowhard. I'm sorry
if that wasn't clear.
I believe that Mr. Atkinson is an opportunist who, first and
foremost, must keep his magazine in business. That he so
openly contests the obvious advantages of the DBT protocol
tells me that he is not really all that interested in
popularizing the rational side of audio. And he has a good
reason for this attitude.
Money talks at $tereopile.
The writer Harry Crews published a novel years ago entitled
The Gospel Singer. It is about an Elmer Gantry style con
artist who eventually becomes guilt ridden and stands up in
front of his very rough, emotional and country red-neck
congregation and confesses that he has been feeding them a
bunch of claptrap for years. The congregation rises out of
its collective seats and kills the guy right up there at the
front of the church.
Years of deceit finally revealed will have its payback, and
I assume that guys like Mr. Atkinson are fully aware of what
the tweakos would do to his magazine (and what the magazine
owners would do to him as a result) if he fessed up and
spilled the beans.
