Hmmm, curious, what kind of jack was it, the standard little stereo
headphone jack? How did you select the input.


Yeah, a crappy stereo mini jack, and there was a button on the radio
to select it as the input. It was probably too complicated for the
drivers. This was even before cellular phones were very common. But
today, I'd think the iPod generation would really go for something
like this.

I've been thinking
about making a mod like this for my car. My guess is to simply wire a
standard little jack across the radio volumne conrol


Ah, if I could only find the radio volume control (it's a knob
controlling a digital attenuator). In fact, I'm not sure I could even
figure out how to remove the radio from the dashboard. I'm not as
small as I used to be, either. Maybe I need a Mini-me.

the low Z headphone output of the portable which will "override"
whatever the radio is trying to play.


Not a chance. But I suppose you can probably find a place to tune to
where there isn't a radio station.
