Default where's the THRILL in fine audio?

Could someone answer me this: Where's the thrill in fine audio
reproduction?

Emotional reaction to music.

I read somewhere that some guy got "a thrill out of the illusion that
[he] could step forward and shake John Coltrane's hand". Is that what
thrills you about high quality audio reproduction?

Not exactly, but not that far off.

Or is audio a
backdrop to some of life's other great delights - parties, sex,
vacuuming...

Some experiences are plenty exciting based on their own merits, no added
music required.

But, there's something to be said for audio as figurative flavor enhancement
for experiences that are more pedestrian.
