I thought an XJ-S or a ('new') Quattroporte _was_ a modern car!

They're all '80s cars.

Cits
require specifically trained maintenance- hydraulics and sheetmetal.

In Europe, parts are fairly easy to get.
Owning a Citroen means getting skilled in car mechanics real fast, or
get bankrupt (also real fast!).

The Volvo is a practical car, all too practical in fact, but reliable.

For driving an old car to be cheaper than leasing new ones, you have
to be an owner maintainer, at least in my neighborhood. Dealer labor
rates are pushing $85/hr here.

I like the idea of knwing how to fix things I own.
What's the fun of driving a Toyota and to never have to work on it?

Real men have greasy hands, you will note.
