Maybe it's just me, but what use does a 1600 watts amplifier have in a
normal living room with moderately sensitive speakers?

I thought we were talking high performance audio, in which case neither
"normal living room" nor "moderately sensitive speakers" are givens.

Or 450 watts, for that matter?
