Hello,
My father has a 15 years-old Technics system, we haven't cleaned it or
fixed it the whole time we've had it. The CD player only works once in
awhile and the sound is not very good anymore. I know nothing about
hi-fis, but I want to know if there's any reason that I should keep/fix
the old system instead of buying a new one. Please help, thanks!
The system we have now:
Technics
-Integrated Amplifier SU-V60
-Graphic Equalizer SH-8046
-2-way speakers SB-RX30
-CD Player SL-P310
-Quartz AM/FM Stereo Tuner ST-G50
-Cassette Deck RS-B405
Anything that works can still be used. The CD player probably just needs a
cleaning, but a qualified tech will be able to tell you. Since CD players
can be purchased for very low prices these days, I'd check and see what the
charge for cleaning it would be.
The speakers are another matter altogether. This sounds like it was
purchased as a rack system, which means that the speakers are most likely
sub par. If you really want to make an improvement, start there. Shop
around for something from a well know manufacturer, set a budget and get
something you like.
