After being roundly criticized for putting two different cycles of the
Beethoven Symphonies on my NJB3, being criticized for putting an emoticon

its own line of text seems predictable.

You completely miss the point.
There is the saying "In every joke there's a little bit of truth."
There are mortal insults and slanders which cannot be turned into jokes by
emoticons.
Therefore, they should not be used in such circumstances.
The example sentence is a joke, because I believe the genes vs. environment
controvery has not been settled.
