What does anybody think of the Yamaha M-916 desk ?
What do I think? I think I really need to get off my ass and go down
to the garage and haul the M-916 that I bought for $75 through
Craigslist a few months back up to my apartment and see if the damn
thing works. But when I bought it and heard parts rattling around
inside it frightened me a little. Oh well, for $75 I was willing to buy
it just for spare parts to it's bigger brother my M-1516 (which was the
little brother to the PM-2000).
What do I think of the M-1516? I think I really need to get off my ass
and get a one-way U-Haul truck so I can get all my stuff out of a
storage unit in Chicago and drive it back here to SF, CA. Maybe then I
can start working on that crazy hot-rod project where I'll replace a
few of the M-1516 op-amps with the Hardy-990's and Millenia M-99's I
bought years ago. I think the M-916 has those discrete op-amps with the
990/2520 footprint in the master output section. But the 916 individual
channel strip pre's are based around a funky 9 pin SIP made by Toshiba.
I never was able to track down a data sheet on those things...
Anyhow, I've got a M-916 service manual with schematics around here
somewhere. Let me know if you need me to run down to Kinko's...
