It may be that the equalization is fixed - if it's a European machine,
it will be set up for IEC, if it's an American machine, it'll be NAB.
You may need to look at the schematic and see if there's a note about
different parts or jumpers. I'm pretty sure there's an NAB/IEC switch
on my Otari MX-55, but that doesn't mean there's one on the 5050.

Mike: I have an Otari MX5050 BII 1/4" 2 track and it does have a switch on
the back apron
to switch between IEC and NAB.

I have a mx5050 1/4" 2 track as well. That's got the switch. The 1/2"
8 track doesn't though.
