to me, and a really good one.

You know, you really shouldn't have to say that. Nobody ever said much
good or bad about the mix bus of an analog console (other than
cautions about how to best utilize the available gain on a Mackie) it
just works.

There were some problems with digital mixing early on due to short
length arithmentic and that people didn't know that you needed to
dither in the right places, but that's all pretty well documented now
and there really aren't any secrets, nor, with modern computer
hardware, no reasons to take shortcuts in a "nominally professional"
product.

Be that as it may, there are differences, just like there are
differences between mic preamps which aren't supposed to do anything
but provide gain, or speakers which aren't suppposed to do anything
but convert voltage to air movement. And when you have differnces, you
have personal preferences and personal levels of tolerance. The bottom
line is whether the mixer (be it a console or a piece of a computer
program), when you learn how to use it, allows you to do good work.
