Bass appears detached and lives its own life without being integrated

I think you look into getting the bass to appear to be in the same space
as the rest. Something like a 6 dB pr. octave roll-off at 70 Hz may also
suit the overall tone fine and lighten it up. I'd prefer adding a wee
bit, say 4 dB, on say the 5 kHz slider of an assumed octave band
equalizer, so as to address the overall abscense, it sounds too remote
and ought to be more intimate/up front.

Your mileage may vary greatly.
