I am, from a predominately technical standpoint, interested in hearing

Oh. Get the last RAP CD collection. It's got a recording I did of a
flute and Kodo drum together, with a band called Ondekoza.

In addition to the above I would prefer it if the recording was
exceedingly free from coloration by microphones, preamps and
processing. Again, to quite technically explore the range of the
format.

Mine was recorded with a pair of B&K 4145 mikes. No preamp was used..
believe me the output was high enough to drive the converters directly.

Scott, I know from my pathological lurking that you are a fan of
baffled omnis, that you use B&K measurement microphones, a Millennia
Media HV-3 preamp and a Prism A/D converter. Such a combo would be
pretty much what I'm looking for. Have you ever recorded anything
using the above that is publically available?

Yes, and you should get the RAP collection. You should know that most
of the stuff on the Pope Music label and on the M-A recordings label
has been done with similar configurations.

I recommend _Salterio_ on the M-A Recordings label... done with two B&K
measurement mikes into some weird custom preamps. Not much dynamic range,
but the realism of the bottom end is shockingly good.

I have supplied Todd Garfinkle (MA Recordings) with mic pre's since
1987. The earlier recordings were limited not by the matched B+K
4006's or mic pre's, but the converters/storage devices. All preamps
were high speed solid state without any transformers or capacitors
other than a set used to block the phantom power. Slew rates are very
fast, output current is high, distortion scrapes the Audio Precision's
residuals. If you like "real", which unfortunatly is out of fashion,
the MA stuff will deliver as will the recording techniques and
equipment used.
