I would take the Yamaha AW16G over all of thoes anyday. Its easy to use,
studier, many more features, better EQs and compressors onboard. Look it
up..$999

I've pretty much narrowed it down to a
Tascam 788 8-Track Recording Kit (includes CD burner), the Fostex
VF80EX with CD burner and the Fostex VF160EX 16-track with CD burner.
Which is the best bang for the buck and the most user-friendly?
The most user-friendly is a function of the user. You should go to a
music store where you'll probably find at least one of your choices.
Play with it for a while. If you can understand it and are comfortable
working with it, buy it.
At this price point, the user interface is more important than any
differences that there might be in technical performance. Just make
sure it has everything you need in terms of inputs (mic preamps,
phantom power as required) and number of tracks you can record
simultaneously if you think you might be wanting to put down more than
one or two tracks in a pass.
