It may not be difficult to find the IP addreess even if it's disguised
in the message, but in most cases, it takes a warrant to get the ISP's
assistance in locating their customer who sent the message. I'm an
AOL dial-up user and my IP address changes on a regular basis. I
suspect that the reason why not every software uploader or P2P music
file host hasn't been busted isn't because there are too many of them,
it's because it's really difficult, given a message or a shared file
directory, to find a door to knock on.

Poisoning the filesharing networks with
detectable degraded audio does not, it only offends people


I agree. That's kind of silly. If someone wants a file, they'll find a
good copy of it.
