He also designed a couple of really nice fretless basses which were sold by
Hohner. Semihollow body, dual pickups (the second edition had humbuckers);
in one set of settings you could make it sound like a Fender, in another it
sounded like a standup. Very nice instruments, wonderful feel on the neck. I
had flatwound nylon tape strings on mine, and loved it right up until the
day somebody stole it. I saw two others in stores before my was stolen (one
in St. Louis, one in England) and haven't seen one since.
Peace,
Paul
I had one of those basses! Semi-hollow fretless, natural finish. It
was great. Unfortunately, mine was stolen as well. It had the same
type of strings you are describing - I think. The outer coating is
like a smooth, glossy plastic. It sure would be nice to find a set of
those. I love em.
RIP Mr Armstrong. He definitely made some cool, funky instruments.
