It wasn't a problem so much with him calling Americans stupid, obviously
many are. The problem was that he seems to think we all are.

Some moron paid $28,000 (maybe more) on ebay for a 10 year old half
bitten grilled cheese which had the likeness of a female face (aka
burnt butter) proclaimed to be the virgin mary on it. Some argue off
topic, others on AB/X no matter what your beef maybe or how much Bose
you've bought, nothing goes lower than this...
