Crimestopper car alarm problem
I have a Crimestopper SuperPage III (CS-2006FM) Alarm that in my '91 CRX.
I installed it myself. It's a two-way pager system with remote start
(which I don't use) and it worked okay when I installed. For the last
year the car's been collecting dust, and I recently got it running again.
At first, the remote only worked as a reciever. I couldn't control the
alarm, but the alarm could contact the pager. I previously had occasional
trouble getting the pager-remote to disarm the car, but it would always
work eventually. This time though, it never started working, so I decided
to try and reprogram the remote. I followed the instructions in the
manual, and now I have a 0-way system. The pager isn't talking to the
alarm, and the alarm isn't talking to the pager.
The manual says the following for programming remotes:
1. Turn ignition on and off 3 times within 5 seconds leaving it on the
3rd time (on/off, on/off, on) A single chrip should sound if this was
performed correctly.
2. Press the override/program button for approx. 5 seconds until *5 siren
chrips are heard.
3. Press the (I) button on the transceiver. You should hear a single
siren chirp when the code is accepted, then and press button (I) for an
additional transceiver (pager-remote) if necessary.
4. Turn the ignition off and wait a few seconds before trying the one or
both transceivers.
* - The diagram says 3.
When I get to step 2 only 3 chirps are heard, but that matches what the
diagram in the manual says. When I push the (I) button I don't get a
chirp, but within another 5 seconds after the 3 chirps, I get 2 chirps
and 2 flashes. That means I'm done, according to the diagram. After this
I get nothing. The remote doesn't control or react to the alarm like it's
supposed to.
There were a couple of times where the alarm reacted as though it heard
the remote (a single chirp after pressing the (I) button), but it still
didn't work. At one point, after a program attempt, the alarm was
behaving strangely. The parking lights would mysteriously flash every now
and then while the car was parked, and the locks (after-market power
locks hooked up to the alarm) would lock and unlock while driving. I
don't know what the hell that was all about, but it stopped doing that.
Anyway, I was hopping to find out what's wrong with the system before I
try replacing the remote, the antenna module or the whole damn thing.
I've gone thru the wiring and can't find anything wrong. I don't recomend
Crimestopper products. Their manual and website suck ass. BTW, the only
remote I have is the single pager one that came with the system and it
has a fresh battery.
