I have a Rel Strata 2 that was hit by lightning. The board is burnt
out and useless but the box and speaker are fine. Rel don't make the
boards anymore. I don't want to bin it but can't afford to spend much
on it. Any ideas of how I can get it active again cheaply, with UK
parts ie 240v, OR, and this might sound a bit daft, can I just connect
it up as a passive sub as it is?

You can use any amplifier to drive it as a passive sub, but the
filtering may be a problem.
If you're skilled in electronics, you can make your own 24 dB/oct.
lowpass filter with adjustable crossover for 50....100 Hz.

If you're not, you still can use an old amp with the tone controls
adjusted to max. low freq. output, but it'll always be a patch
solution.

I know of at least one manufacturer in Germany who sells compact mono
amplifier + filter + powersupply units intended to be build into a sub
(the brand is ALBS).
You can do a Google if they're available in the UK.
Here in Holland they're easy to get.

You could also try Amplimo (ILP) amplifier modules, but I don't know
if they have subwoofer filters available.
