No it isn't. This is the flaw in all the doppler distortion
arguments.

all of the FM we measure come from? Why does it correlate well with

Not really. A nonlinearity produces AM.

Yes really. It is exactly how a mixer works in a receiver. The non
linearity produces sum and difference frequencies.
