arguments.
If all the explanations for Doppler distortion are wrong, where does
all of the FM we measure come from? Why does it correlate well with
the *incorrect* theoretical predictions?

Not really. A nonlinearity produces AM.
Yes really. It is exactly how a mixer works in a receiver. The non
linearity produces sum and difference frequencies.
