That would depend on how you define "decent". I think that leaving 10 dB of
headroom while digitizing analog sources is a good idea.

They can't win! Fed from a domestic unit, the Audiophile will be
difficult to overload - but the user may complain that he can't get
the signal anywhere the 0dB mark. The hobbiest has a mixer capable
of sending +4dB, and complains the card won't accept this
"professional" level.

A pro just ignores the numbers, sets up the gain structure and gets on
with the job.
