That will work, and of course, if they are different, I would
certainly recomand putting the lower noise one first, and the lower
distortion one second. In fact by the time you go through the first 30
or more dB gain, the second one can be a very noisy one.

Regarding sugestion to alter the circuitry itself: It may work well
when one knows their circuits and have some margins to spare. There
are cases where one is forced to trade something for the extra gain.
The tradeoff may be reduced bandwidth or worse distortions. When a
design depends a lot on negative feedback to get distortions in line,
using more of the availble gain (open loop gain)to amplify, leaves you
with less for the feedback correction. I would think that the Hardy
twin servo will work very well, because he can tweak the correction in
the right place.
