Scott is no Nazi. Don't let your hatreds get in the way of
clear thinking.

Even Lionel will not be converted to Bratzi.

Maybe he meant converts to the Ultrastupidity Cult. Oh, wait, then he
would have addressed the question to Witless.

Clyde, the things that 2pid has in common with Bratzi are:

1. Tons of inappropriate OT posts.

2. General density in the cranial regions.

> Even Lionel will not be converted to Bratzi.

That's good. We don't need any more dumb OT posters. Two is plenty.

1. if that is what you meant, then Bratzi would be Scott's convert. I
think
Scott was doing this before Bratzi.

2. So what? this group would be dead without them.

3. Its obviously a far greater transgression than being a Nazi, lol!

4. You keep it alive by playing along.

Then 2pid should apologize to Bratzi for leading him astray, and to
the group. Between the two of them, they are sometimes responsible for
a couple of dozen OT posts in a day.

Bratzi and 2pid have other things in common too, Clyde. They both seem
about equally interested in 'discussing' the 'points' they bring up.
They both seem about equal in ability to process information. Bratzi
is far superior to 2pid in language ability, though.

> 2. So what? this group would be dead without them.

Hm. So what? Would you rather have a live group constantly spreading
Nazi propaganda (Bratzi) and intolerance, muddled 'thought' and other
general stupidity (2pid), or would there perhaps be other places for
that?

It's funny: you and 2pid are very much concerned about "keeping RAO
alive" when you two are probably the only personally-acquainted
regulars here. You two could take it to email, or even roll over and
whisper in 2pid's ear next time you're there.

Keeping a group alive which may have outlived its usefulness or
purpose seems an odd proposition, especially considering that 2pid
always gets his ass handed to him during his OT 'discussions.' Perhaps
we should rename RAO to "rec.2pid's.masochism" or
"rec.white.supremacy".

> 3. Its obviously a far greater transgression than being a Nazi, lol!

Do you mean the group being "dead"? Or do you mean 2pid and Bratzi
being entirely devoid of intelligence and humor?

> 4. You keep it alive by playing along.

That's true. I enjoy handing 2pid his ass. It's way too much fun.

So is 2pid like that in real life? I mean, if you're going somewhere
and looking at a road map and tell 2pid to turn right, does he argue
that his 'opinion' and 'belief' are that you should turn left? LOL!

I find warped 'logic' interesting.

I wonder what a study would show of who starts more threads here. My
guess is Bratzi is number one, 2pid is number two (no puns intended).

Why, 2pid, we just had a 'discussion.' You know, where we 'save' RAO.

That's a false question. It implies that the OT discussion is just
naturally there, and that the ridicule is the problem, when one
clearly follows the other. The question should be, "Who wishes that OT
deluges would go away?"

Anyway, by coming up with this idea, you imply you'd go along with the
outcome. Bratzi, are you in?

So let's poll everybody. Who wishes OT deluges would go away?

So 2pid, why haven't you left? I call you 2pid. George calls you
"Terrierborg". That is apparently enough to drive "knowledgable audio
types" away. Yet you and good old Arns stick around. Bravery? LOL!

So we can conclude a couple of things: you and Arns are far braver
than the types who know something about audio, or you and Arns do not
know about audio, or these people left for other reasons. I looked up
this JJ a few weeks ago. Do you know what I found? There is more
evidence that JJ became frustrated with good old Arns than your
*opinion* that JJ left because he was called "Phoebe" by George.

You tell people to ignore the "ridiculers". Were the others so dumb
that they couldn't?

JJ seemed smarter than most of the audio people I've seen here. It
looks to me like he left RAO about the time he left ATT and went
somewhere else. Oh, and I couldn't find an example of him starting a
single OT thread. Can you?

If you want to say things about audio without ridicule, try RAH-E. But
it doesn't appear that they allow OT jihads, so I can see why you
don't.

LOL!

If an audio post is ridiculed, it's actually on-topic, 2pid. Here's an
example:

*********************************************
> Anyone see any correlations between the characterizations of Mr. Holt
> and opinions posted on rao by the anti-objectivists in recent years?

Sure. The "anti-objectivists" want to advance sound quality.

Why "advance" sound quality when everything already sounds the same?
We've hit the wall: 16-bit CDs, QSC amps and wire from Home Depot.
Audio nirvana, no sound advancement required.

So what are you bitching about?
***********************************************

Do you see the dilemma the original poster created, 2pid? Electronics,
cables, and all sources (except for vinyl/turntables or tape, I
presume, which makes one a "bigot", as we've seen...) are "solved",
yet it is the "anti-objectivists" who are responsible for halting
audio progress, where progress is apparently not needed. What's left
to progress? So I poked fun at the original poster for being too dim
to see the unsolvable dillemma he had created.

Speakers are objectively tested at the factory. There has been
discussion here on blind-testing at Harman, for example. So what ill
have "anti-objectivists" created in the world of audio?

> Never mind...devotion to the middiot won't allow a fair

I use logic, 2pid. If you want to 'discuss' something, how about where
the flaw in my logic is?

Honest polls have honest questions, 2pid. Your question was bull****.

you are too stupid to see it. LOL!

Because I didn't call him "2pid"? LOL! OK, the original poster was too
****ing stupid to see the unsolvable dilemma he'd created. Vile enough
for you? How about I start calling him "Phoebe"? That would be like,
so totally vile. LOL!

> Maybe you truly can't see the difference.

That sounds to me like a subjective call, 2pid. What are the objective
requirements for "vile"?

Yep. Scottie has this image of Phoebe as some delicate hothouse flower,
peeking meekly over his spectacles to impart nuggets of "science".
Nothing could be further from the truth.

Hm, let's see. What do I have to justify to 2pid... Hm. Nada.

Here's the deal, 2pid: you get to say whatever you want. So do I.
That's how free speech works.

It appears as though some claim was made concerning ethics. Since JJ
was an audio scientist, it is on-topic.

BTW, 2pid, did you look at the responses in that thread? It sure looks

N.B.: It was actually "Phoebe the Evil Telco Witch". I got mucho kudos
from the back rows of the Resistance for that nickname.

The dilemma he created has nothing to do with 'opinion', 2pid. Logic

Thanks for the concern, but I can worry about that all by myself.

So what do the "objectivists" feel isn't "solved"?

If something is "solved" you don't need to do blind tests. By my count
that includes all electronics and all wires and cables. That leaves
electro-mechanical devices, such as turntables and tape and speakers,
and rooms. Since we can agree that turntables and cartidges sound
different, we're talking personal preference there. Besides, you're a
"vinyl bigot" if you listen to them. We can agree that speakers (since
they, too, are electro-mechanical devices) sound different. That's
personal choice again. Speaker manufacturers use blind testing at the
factory (where it rightfully belongs) anyway. That leaves blind
testing rooms. Consider that the next time you buy a house. That also
assumes that your goal is "absolute accuracy". Let's not even bring up
tubes here.

Now, however, we find that "anti-objectivists" are responsible for a
halt in the advancement of audio. Their ridicule and purchase choices
have utterly shut down improvements in audio.

Whose position am I misrepresenting? Where was the strawman built?
Whose actual position is not represented? LOL!

Kind of looks like there was adequate security there, yes?

Yes, it was touch and go. It's funny how you're interested in free
speech (although, predictably, the interest is only applicable to
right-wing fringe groups), yet seemingly unconcerned about losing
civil rights in most other areas.

LOL!

Imbecile.

But to objectivists, they are not on the radar screen. I actually
agree with that, but that isn't the point.

Keep in mind that this was a specific response to a specific poster
who tried to use an article by Holt to reinforce a position that "anti-
objectivists" have halted improvements in audio.

No, if you read what objectivists say, LPs are nothing but a mush of
unlistenable distortion. It's not just Arns saying that.

No, my point is that since we can agree that there are differences
between the sound of, say, cartridges or speakers, that blind-testing
to find out if there are differences in sound is an exercize in mental
masturbation. We already know those differences exist.

Objectivists argue that amplifiers only sound different if they are
"broken". Buying Krell amps is stupid unless you want to short the
leads and do some welding. Even then, you can buy welders cheaper.
Amplifiers are "solved". WTF would anybody be interested in advancing
the sound of something there is no need to improve upon?

I think that's a good question. And exactly how do "anti-objectivists"
impede answering it?

other research disciplines.

Good questions all, but these are not areas that the typical audio
hobbyist concerns themselves with. Audio hobbyists do not impede this
one iota.

Can a speaker be built that fits all rooms?

I do see JA experimenting with recording. I don't know that I've heard
one of his recordings. Do they suck?

Yet this is the dilemma set up by the poster I responded to. I was not
suggesting that it is anybody else's position.

They aren't my views.

Look at the post I responded to.

*************************************************
As discussed by Gordon Holt in some interesting quotes published in
the
December Stereophile, audio developments in recent years, which have
entailed the discarding of objective standards such as blind
listening
comparisons, have in some respects reduced what used to be "high
fidelity" to voodoo science. As stated by Mr.Holt:

"... "good" audio is now often defined as "whatever one likes."
And
since the only measure of sound quality is that the listener likes
it,
that has pretty well put an end to audio advancement, because
different
people rarely agree about sound quality. - Abandoning the acoustical
instrument standard, and the mindless acceptance of voodoo science,
were
not a parts of my [Holt's] original vision."

Further:

"As far as the real world is concerned, high-end audio lost its
credibility during the 1980's when it flatly refused to submit to the
kind of BASIC HONESTY CONTROLS (double blind blind testing, for
example)
that had legitimized every other serious scientific endeavor since
Pascal. .." [emphasis added]

Anyone see any correlations between the characterizations of Mr. Holt
and opinions posted on rao by the anti-objectivists in recent years?
************************************************** **************
According to objectivists, electronics and wire are solved. So there
is no need, in either high-end or midfi audio, to blind test them.
That's over. So do we blind test for audible differences in areas
where all agree they exist, electro-mechanical devices and rooms? This
poster cannot have it both ways: either there are audible differences
requiring blind testing or there are not. Speakers and LP reproduction
would not. These are clearly in the realm of preference, which Holt
seems to have a problem with.

Therefore, my response (and it was also just a bit tongue-in-cheek).

************************************************** *************

************************************************** ****************

> > Where was the strawman built?
>
> See above.

Was the original poster's position incorrectly stated? Again, I am not
suggesting that this is *your* position.

How do you improve on something where there is no room for audible
improvement? What purpose would blind testing serve? To find out if
it's "broken"? You can tell if a power supply is inadequate by looking
at the schematic.

Look under the thread "back to basics". His name is "Jim".

As a group, audiophiles may be irreligious. I know I am.

It can be done if there was enough values placed on the resistors
between your ears.

.... nor as in determining the proper amount of bleach necessary to uproot
the brown stains left over on Arny's chair.

lol OK. You and all of your geographic kin certainly deserve a break.

Today was only 13 hours. What a week. And I've been served papers to
testify at a thing tomorrow at the college. Oy.

You may be close on the first one. I'd put it like this, though: "Too
much of a hassle with very little perceived benefit."

As for your second point, I'd rephrase that one like this: "Sounds too
much like going to church." Let's see how they sound together:

"Too much of a hassle with very little perceived benefit and sounds
too much like going to church."

I think we're on to something here.
