Upgrading speakers + subwoofer Q

I currently have a 90 watt onkyo amp (TX-SR603X) and paradigm
speakers. ( 2 x monitor 3, pdr10 sub, cinema 330 centre)

I'm looking to upgrade my aging monitor 3 to the studio 40's - reading
several reviews these seem to be good value for the dollar and about
all i want to spend. From my novice understanding, this would be a
good match for my amp and system correct ? Are the 40's noticeably
better than the monitor 3's ??

also, not clear on how the subwoofer interacts with the fronts which
also have bass ? I have my crossover set at 100 hz in software as well
as on the sub. Do the fronts just kick in a little bass while the sub
handles 90% of it ??

I have my stereo set up to my computer and mostly use it for watching
movies but also some music

Hey Stephen, I was just watching a CSPAN thing on the LBJ Library in
your very fair city. It brought back great memories of when I was there
in '06 for a thing I did at UT with Jerry Judkin. A lovely
museum/library. You live in a nice place!

IMHO, yes. A real step up.

Depends on the crossover point. The higher it is, the more that the
sub gets. The lower it is, the more the speakers handle. For the
Studio 40s, you might want to lower the crossover to 80 Hz but keep it
high for the other speakers. Also, set the crossover on the sub as
high as possible (or bypass). You do not want to have both crossovers
interfering with each other.
