Just got a JVC KD-G332, which is fine in every way apart from
resetting itself when the ignition key is removed - ie, all
settings(bass, tone etc) and the last place the cd reached are lost.
Theres not much to installing this unit(just plug in the adaptor to
the unit and car leads), so what is the solution?

You're missing the constant (un-switched) power. There should be a
yellow wire on the harness - make sure it's connected to a constant
power source. If it's connected to what SHOULD be constant power, check
your fuses.

I've found (in a couple of cars) that someone had run a "jumper wire"
in the adapter from the switched lead to the constant power lead.
Which, effectively, tricks the unit into thinking that all the wires
in the adapter are connected correctly, but then robs the unit of
power when the ignition is turned off.
My guess is that this was due to a unit being installed previously
that didn't require constant power. Check your adapter (on the
vehicle end) for such a jumper.
