View Full Version : delta-66 and loosing sound device

This is kind of a fuzzy question... I'm not sure how to phrase or
describe:

I have Delta-66 w/break out box and use Adobe audition 2.0 for most
audio editing that arises in the course of my video projects.

I notice when I have adobe's Premiere pro running and set to use
delt-66{asio}, when I then start Audition (also set to use
delta-66{asio}. It appears Audition grabs the sound device
exclusively and Premiere is booted off and reverts back to its default
device.

The upshot of it is that if I then use Premiere to play back audio, it
plays about half speed or even 25% or some very slow speed with the
concommittant massive distortion.

I have to reset Premiere to the delta-66 device then all is well until
I start Audition (or Sound Forge) again.

The same scenario happens if I should use Audition and Sony's Sound
Forge one after the other. Haven'nt investigated other sound related
software but from what I've experienced it appears to be related more
to delta-66.

I've never noticed a problem like that with my particular software combos.

I routinely switch between the Sony apps (SoundForge, Vegas, CD Architect,
DVD Architect), various players (WinAmp, Foobar2000), and Harmonic Balancer,
Celemony Melodyne, etc. They all seem to play nice with the Delta66 ASIO
driver.

Sounds like it might be an Audition issue you have there - do you ever
have the problem when Audition isn't in the mix?

I think I may have figured this out. It appears not to be especially
related to Audition or Premiere.

See if your settings match these:
In Windows OS Control Panel/Sound I've set the device to Delta-66 1/2
In Sony Vegas set Options/Preferences/audio device set delta-66 1/2
Now in any other sound app that has a setting to set Audio device from
within the software, set it to delta-66 1/2.

With those settings you may have some kind of of serious problem
running two of the sound tools at the same time.

I rethought what was happening and think it may go something like
this: With windows OS set to Delta-66. Any other application can be
set to Windows sound mapper or whatever that app calls it. Then the
OS can manage doling out access to the OS device.

That's just my homeboy reasoning... not based on any research.

So, here I've retained my OS setting but set other tools to use the
Windows sound mapper or similar.

In vegas and sound forge its called `Microsoft Sound mapper'. In
Premiere its called 'Premiere Pro windows sound', in Audition its
called `Audition windows sound'.

I guess its kind of obvious it should work like that but I hadn't
cottoned to it before.
