A fantastic record store

I just returned from 8 days in Portland, OR where I was doing a seminar.
I worked in Portland for 5 years, but hadn't been back in about 12
years. I truly love that city on so many levels. I learned that my
favorite record store from those days was still open, and I looked
forward to a reunion with it, hoping that it had survived the
intervening years to remain a great store. Well, it not only survived,
it thrived. The classical side of the operation is called Classical
Millennium. It is the BEST classical CD store that I've ever seen, with
the possible exceptions of J&R in NYC and the Tower Classical Annex in
LA at its peak. Great selection of new, old, and rare. Highly informed
employees. Great "vibe". I picked up some of the new Lyrita releases,
some rare Gilbert and Sullivan, and (hold your ears, Scott) more Bach
Cantatas, working toward a complete set of them, indeed toward the
complete works of the great master. What a fun afternoon! Highly
recommended if you are ever in the PDX area. The pop/jazz/Broadway side
of the business, Music Millennium, is also very much worth a visit.

I guess it's not all bad news for retailers. Austin's Waterloo Records
seems to do a fair business, too.

Loved Tower Classical Annex!
Rare Japanese and European imports.
I purchased a 3-cd set of violin concertos
played by Isaac Stern over a 50 year period.
Brahms, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky.
Stolen from me 10 or 15 years ago.
I really miss those recordings.
I've tried in vain to find them online.

I know where that is! Could have been neat to meet you, too. Let me
know if you ever come up this way again...you can come by our offices
and sample a bunch of different gear.

Thanks, I will. It could happen in January.

I did a coffee house gig while I was there; neat little place in the NW.
