Hi there,
We just bought a new 4runner with the standard factory audio system
and would like to upgrade the speakers. I don't plan to replace the
head unit unless people really think it will make an Earth shaterring
difference. Right now the unit already has a direct iPod link and that
is great. So if I can, I'd like to leave that side of things alone.
So.... the fronts are 6.5" separates with 1" tweeters. The rears are
6.5". I listen to a broad range of music: reggae, rap, pop,
electronica and more. Not much classical or country. I think we can
fit 6x9s if that is a good way to go, although I was just reading
another post that seemed to bag on the whole 6x9 thing.
My wife works at a big box retailer, and it looks like we can get
really good deals on Infinity.
I consider myself to be a bit of an amature audiophile in that I can
appreciate really good sound, but don't get into the really technical
side of A/V. Pretty green as far as car audio goes. I don't really
understand the 2 versus 4 ohms and impedience numbers.
Here is my potential set-up:
Infinity Kappa60.7cs in front
Infinity Kappa693.7l rear (may change this now that I'm hearing bad
things about 6x9)
Infinity Ref475 (do I need a 2 or 4 channel amp?)
The specs on the amp say it can take the signal from an OEM HU. Would
I still need an LOC? I don't really understand what LOCs do.
Here are a few questions: should I replace all the speakers or can I
get away with just upgrading the fronts? We don't have passengers
that often.
Thanks in advance for the help.
