Hi all,
A couple of days ago I bumped into a very cool website with a bunch of
pictures of amplifier's guts sorted by brand. Now that I want to look
at it againg I cannot find it. Does anyone have a link to that site?

I think I know the one you're thinking of... I can't find it either, but
I did find this:

Nice! I design a lot of PCB's (mostly control electronics), and it's always
cool to look at layouts for different products.
I'm amazed at how many "modern" amplifiers still use old through hole
technology. I suspect the volumes are low enough to make the cost savings of
SMT a bit of a wash. There's a lot of larger power components which only
come as TH, so hand stuffing extra parts before solderwave probably isn't a
big deal. Chinese labor is cheaper than machinery.
Obviously a lot of attention is put into making them aesthetically pleasing.
Seems these manufacturers anticipate the covers to be removed and the
internals displayed. The Visonik folks went so far as to house mark all of
their larger electrolytic caps.
