View Full Version : HOW TO WIRE CAR SUBS/AMP
I AM TRYING TO HELP MY FRIEND PUT TOGETHER A CHEAP STEREO IN HIS CAR.
HE BOUGHT 2- 400W 10" DVC SUBS AND A 4 CHANEL 600W AMP. I MYSELF AM
NEW TO INSTALLING SUBS AND NEED SOME HELP.
QUESTION 1: THIS IS A DUMB ONE... IF THE SPEAKERS ARE DVC AND 4OHM,
DOES THAT MEAN THAT BOTH VOICE COILS ARE 4OHM'S EACH OR 4OHM'S TOTAL?
QUESTION 2: HIS DECK ONLY HAS ONE SET OF RCA OUTPUTS, YET HIS AMP HAS
INPUTS FOR EACH CHANEL. CAN WE USE AN RCA SPLITTER TO HOOK UP THE
OTHER CHANNELS?
ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

4 Ohms per voice coil

Are you running the to the Subs only or to other speakers? If your doing
subs only on the amp then splitters is fine
Do you want the ability to fade from front to rear? If you want the fade
option and your hooking amp to other speakers.
The you would need and line level adapter so you can add another set of
RCA's.
If the amp is bridgable I would recommend bridging it to the subs and using
to power of the head unit to power factory location speakers

i am only going to power the 2 subs with the amp. yes it is
bridgeable, and that is how i will hook it up.
so i can split the rca outputs from my deck to get 2 pairs of inputs
for the amp? that is what i am looking to do.
thanks.
ok once again i have (2) 4ohm dvc subs, (1) 4ch amp (selectable 2, 3,
4 channels).
my amp can only handle a min of 4ohms bridged and 2ohms unbridged.
ive seen a couple ways to wire them online and im not sure what one is
true or how i can make this work.
here is the new question: can i select to use 4 channels and bridge
each sub seperatly?
one sub to channels 1 & 2, and the other sub to 3 & 4? from what i
have found online, that would give me an impedance of 8ohms at each
bridge. does that sound right? ive seen diagrams saying if i put my
amp on 2ch mode, the impedance would drop to 2ohms a peice. does that
sound right?
once again, any help would be awsome

Personally, I would keep it simple. Each of your subs can be wired to
2 ohms (just combine the positive and negatives on the sub) - Put the
amp in 2 channel mode, and put each sub on its own channel. I realize
that it's not necessary to run the subs in stereo like this, but (to
me) it seems to be the simplest solution with the devices given, while
getting the subs the most power.

a 4 channel amp will not power up two 4 ohm DVC subs.
All 4 channels amps that i've seen are only Bridgalbe at 4 Ohms and 2 ohm in stereo. (No way you'll power those subs in stereo mode on a 2 ohm load)
a 4 Ohm DVC sub has an option of wiring it at 8 ohm (series) or 2 Ohm (parallel).
So Two DVC 4 ohm subs has these options:
1 Ohm Load (Parallel coils and parallel subs)
Or
4 Ohm load (Series the coils and parallel the subs)
Or
16 Ohm load (Series the Coils and series the subs)
In my opinion i would just take one coil of each sub and wire it bridged on the amp to run it in 4 ohm
