Hi, I'm looking for CD of Elevator to the Gallows remastered soundtrack by
Mikes Davis. I can find plently copies of the sound track but none are
remastered. Is it available in a remastered version?

Thanks,

Mike

CD was released as Ascenseur Pour L'Echafaud (Lift To The Scaffold)

There's a Japanese import dated 2004, but nothing in the description
makes me think it's different from the Polygram 1990. You could try the
Criterion DVD. The French DVD (2005) comes with a bonus cd of the
soundtrack.

Why do you need a "remaster"? Is there something wrong with the commonly
available version?

Some of the reviews complain of poor sound quality of the "regular" version.
I'll go back and see if they were discussing the Polygram CD. I'm aware of
Japanese import, however it was not displayed in any of my several recent
Google searches. The French DVD might be the one to buy. Have you heard
the Polygram CD?

No, I'm not familiar with this recording, except that the old lp ("Jazz
Track") is collectable.

Here we go:

http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=13348

"With the original soundtrack issued as side one of the 1958 Columbia LP
release, Jazz Tracks [sic], the complete session from Miles Davis'
soundtrack recording to the 1958 Louis Malle film, Ascenseur pour
l'échafaud has been out of print on CD for many years. Now Universal
Music France has rectified that situation, reissuing the complete
session in a beautiful 24-bit/96 kHz remastered version in a digipack
complete with session photos and liner notes."

It's at amazon.fr relatively cheap, so you might not mind the shipping
charges as much.

Do you think the French version will plAY on my Denon DVD/CD/SCAD player?

It'll cost about thirty bucks plus s/h and I want to be sure it'll play
before ordering it.
I'm thinking I'll see if I can get from a US vendor, if possible.

It's Region 2, so probably not, unless your player is "multi-region" or
has been modified. There are ways of resetting a dvd player, but I don't
know about that.

Good luck!

Over the past six months I bought nine art medals from the French mint in
Paris and learned the hard way the EU exchange rate is 1.6 EU dollar to one
US dollar. I beleive it was 21.99 on Amazon.fr which comes to a little more
than
$35.00 US plus s/h. The French mint got me the first few times w/ their
two price structure w/ VAT and w/o it. The w/o price looks good if you
forget to add in the 1.6 exchange rate. Thanks again for all of you
helpful information.
