Hello!

Short version : I'm looking for infos on fiberglass/mdf enclosure
construction. Anyone know of some website with pictures of such
project?

Long version : I want to construct a pair of small enclosure in a kick
panel configuration. They are to house a pair of 6.5 inches low-mid
drivers.

I can easily construct a basic wedged mdf box for all the 5 exposed
sides, but the unexposed part of the box will have to follow the fairly
irregular shape of the car's body. I want to know how to proceed to
mold the fiberglass to the complex surface of the car.

I thought about puting the (previously lined up and lubed) basic mdf box
in place temporarly, filling it with plaster of expanding foam, then
remove the mold and use it as the form for the fiberglass. Then affix
the molded piece to the mdf box.

Alternatively, I can mold the fiberglass directly on the lined up
surfaces of the car and let it set. Then attach the resulting molded
piece to the enclosure. Problem is some surfaces parts are nearly
upside down and I wonder if the fiberglass will adhere to those part
long enough to set in place.

Any thoughts?

Look at that, sure it is for a sub, but it gives you the basic idea.

Wow! Very relevant website! Are you the author?

What kind of tape was used? Is it regular duct tape that happens to be
blue?

hehe, I made it (the above project) go to any hardware store, in the
Paint section there are always large assortments of Tape, the Blue tape
is also known as "painters tape" because it adhere's well but does NOT
tear paint off with it (nor leave behind paint sticky crap)

basically, it's like a masking tape with less stick.

any other questions?

You can also use waxed paper and plastic sheeting to mold fiberglass
without getting it all over the place. Metal window screen/chicken wire
works too if you are trying to hold a shape in an odd place. Then take
it out and build it up.
