Was there pitch correction on billy joels voice while he sang the
national anthem during the opening of the super bowl?
I did not realize it could be applied live!

I did not watch it, but yes, Autotune does make a rack-mount hardware
version.

Not to forget the hardware units from TC Electronics (Intonator, Helicon
series):

Superbowl National Anthem is ALWAYS lip synched... not live, but still
sucky...in a folksy way...

I don't think this one was pre-recorded. I wasn't watching it, I was in
the other room, but I could hear it well. I could hear the auto-tune
clear as day, and it sounded like a poorly set automatic mode on the
hardware auto-tune. If this was pre-recorded, it was an absolute butcher
job. I can't imagine anyone would have let that out of a studio.

In one way it sounded like pitch correction...but then there were
times where it really NEEDED pitch correction...so I'm not sure. He
was horrible either way.

I watched him singing it live and my take is that the weather threw
him off. You could see the rain hitting the piano and I can't imagine
him being comfortable in those conditions.

Bad setting on pitch correction can mess up even a good performace!

OT: When will folks learn to spell "hee hee"? "He" is a masculine pronoun.

Not having watched the game I was thinking "Oh you bitter cynics.
Always complaining about some imagined misuse of some dreaded piece of
misused technology. Someone putting an Autotune on Billy Joel on the
N.A. at the Super Bowl isn't possible. A figment of your cynical
imaginations." Then I downloaded it from youtube....

Holy Toledo, that is the strangest ****ing thing! That is far and
away more noteworthy than the Janet J/Justin T broo hah hah. I'm
mesmerized by it! It was practically vocoded! I thought he was
channeling Roger Troutman and Zapp!

I mean, all sense of taste and etc. aside, when has using autotuning
live ever NOT been a dicey proposition? If you took any of those
operatic singers who used to have the gig sewn up, like Robert
Merrill, who no one would accuse of being pitchy, it STILL would have
its Zapp moments. I can't even imagine what the plus side of having
it in the path could possibly be.

Anybody who was working the show PLEASE post the inside scoop. Was
it there accidently, waiting for some other singer?

No, you're wrong. It's P-I-T-C-H correction, not bitch correction|.
There ya go ;-)

But I'll add that bitch correction seems appropriate for the
autotuning job needed on some young female singers!

I recently saw a commercial with Stevie and "stars". Stevie seemed to hit
one or two real clunkers.

I downloaded two versions of the show...
One with and one without auto-tune.
I believe that pitch correcton was added on-air only.
In you opinion does he look disappointed with his audio in the monitors?
