It will playback a file fine, but if I try to record a track, although
it records, the speakers go silent.
I've tried reinstalling it, but no change.
Anyone know how to fix it?

Thanks

Tony

Check ALL the settings for your sound card.
There is usually a mute checkbox and a a
slider volume control to allow you to hear the
input that you are recording from.

Does it play anything? Does anything play anything? What sound card or
interface do you have? What operating system? Do you have the speaker
output selected?

Solved it
Audacity preferences | audio i\o
I'd reduced the sound quality to record a radio show.
Somehow the checkbox "play other tracks while recording new one" had
become unchecked".
(Mustve been me!)

Thanks
