I've used the M80, the 8-channel version of the same preamp, for years.
It's a clean, decent-sounding preamp but the gain pots on the M80 have
had a continual problem with scratchiness. The IDSS control is not that
useful in my experience. It's a fine general-purpose preamp and for
$250 it's a good deal.

And if it's an older model with Jensen transformers, it's a VERY good deal.

Yes, I'd say that's a very nice deal! I've got a little web site I put
together years ago about changing out transformers and opamps in the
PreSonus M80 which also applies to the MP20 (the MP-20 is pretty much just a
2 channel version of the M80 only with better switches)

Best of luck!

Well, I hope you got the Jensen's if that's what you wanted but . . . . . .
there was a cross over period there the manuals said "Jensen" but PreSonus
was already using the new 'gerneric' ones. (at least the manual for my M80
said it had Jensen transformers but my M80 didn't! That's why I raised a
big stink and made that web site back in 2000! ;-) I think the switch
overtime was somewhere through 1999 and 2000. The is no sharp cut off date
you can use to figure out what you have with the serial numbers either. :-(
The only way to tell for sure is to open it up and look. Here is a picture
of the Jensen and generic next to each other :

You may want to reserve judgment and do some recording for a week or month
before you open it up. Decide before you find out for sure what
transformers are in there. ;-)
Best of luck!
