Good article, but he's a little off-base on the panty hose. He suggests any
old generic pair; I've found most brands are thick enough mesh to roll off
high frequencies. For a filter with flatter response, I recommend Sheer
Energy. Use the toe.

Peace,
Paul

It just doesn't seem like it's worth the time to make your own when
they can be purchased so cheaply. Saving $20 but also investing the
time in goofing around going out and buying the parts and then making
it just seems like a poor cost/benefit ratio. But then again, cables
can be bought dirt cheap and yet I still buy raw cable and connectors
and solder all my own cables because I like the somewhat quiet and
metitative process...

He said it reduced sibilance.

Of course it did, it reduces the high frequencies.

All in all, I thought that it was an excellent article on a variation
of the panty hose around a piece of coat hanger wind screen.

Now, if I could find a quantity of the angled wire mesh that is used
on some of the other wind screens, I'd either write an article on
using it or start marketing the stuff. <G>

I have two pieces of angled aluminum screen that would work, but they
are the speaker grilles in my Jaguar, and using them is not cost
effective.

Mine cost me $00.85 for an embroidery hoop. The rest of it was odd parts
I had around, and a length of panty hose.

same for me...but just wait till your friends ask you to make one for them,
and the "odd parts" baskets is empty....the cost escalates a lot !

Ever suddenly need a pop filter on a Sunday night? I have. I still use the
ones I made then.

Paul

Yeah, but that's when you show them how you did it, show them the
article, AND the catalog entry for a ready-made unit...and tell them to
make their own choice.

But in a pinch, when the store is closed... I had to make a singer sing
through a pop filter that smelled like perfume once. We really need a
pop filter and had one within 5 minutes of making a phone call.
sometimes recording is all about who you know.
